Employer Utilizing Temps Penalized By OSHA
NORTH ARLINGTON, New Jersey – Last week, OSHA issued 25 repeat, 15 serious and two other-than-serious citations to Sterling Seating, a company that utilized temporary employees from On Target Staffing.
OSHA received a worker complaint alleging unsafe working conditions at Sterling Seating, and while there, compliance officers observed hazards to temporary workers, which resulted in a separate inspection of the staffing company.
OSHA issued citations related to worker exposures to amputation hazards, not using precautions for accidental machine start-up (also known as “Lockout/Tagout”), inadequate safety training, electrical deficiencies, lacking emergency preparedness and proper evacuation routes, and improperly stacking materials in an unstable and unsafe manner. OSHA also issued citations related to an inadequate hazard communication program and training.
The combined penalty issued to both companies comes to nearly $200,000.
